RNessa high fuel consumption and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Nissan RNessa is experiencing high fuel consumption, stalling when idling, and the check engine light is on, with smoke visible during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Replacing the MAF sensor resolved the issues, improving fuel economy and engine performance.

Starting seems normal, no issues there. Was your air-fuel ratio off when your MAF sensor failed?

Didn't check the air-fuel ratio myself, but the workshop confirmed it was the MAF sensor causing the problems. Ended up replacing it. If you are experiencing all of the same symptoms, you may want to have yours checked out by a professional.

Appreciate the insight. I had the MAF sensor replaced, and that resolved all the issues. Cost me 365€. Thanks!

Sounds like my RNessa when the MAF sensor went bad. Had similar symptoms: rough idle, poor fuel economy. Did you notice any change in how it starts?
