RS3 eCall Emergency System Failure Needs Expert Fix

My RS3 (2021, 81713km) keeps showing an error message and warning light in the speedometer cluster. The diagnostic scan confirmed an error related to the emergency call system malfunction. The telematics unit seems to be affected, potentially impacting the SOS signal function. Has anyone experienced similar car safety issues with their RS3? Last mechanic visit was not great, so looking for recommendations on how others resolved this and trusted shops that properly fixed this specific problem.

Had the same telematics control module issue on my S3 (2018). The diagnostic codes pointed to a faulty connection between the emergency call system and the main control unit. This was a serious car safety concern since the SOS function is critical in crash scenarios. The root cause was a corroded wiring harness connector near the telematics unit. The call failure happened because moisture had damaged the pins in the connector block. The fix required replacing the entire wiring harness assembly and updating the control module firmware. While accessing the components was time-consuming due to their location behind the instrument cluster, the actual repair was straightforward for a qualified technician with the right diagnostic tools. Key is finding a shop with experience in automotive communication systems. The repair should include a full system test to confirm proper emergency call function after installation. Regular diagnostic scans can help catch deteriorating connections before complete failure occurs. This repair typically needs specialized knowledge since it involves both hardware replacement and software configuration of the telematics system.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the telematics issue. I had a similar problem with my Audi RS3 back in 2021. The system reset and new wiring harness fixed the emergency call failure for me too. The control module also needed reprogramming to fully resolve those car safety warnings. Have you had any issues since the repair was done? And would you mind sharing what the total cost was? My automotive electronics specialist charged quite a bit, so curious how it compares.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since getting the emergency call system malfunction fixed at the shop there have not been any issues with the SOS signal function. The total repair cost was surprisingly reasonable at 95 Euro, which covered fixing a defective cable connection in the telematics control module. The automotive electronics specialist found the root cause quickly, just a faulty plug that was causing the call failure warnings. Much simpler than needing a full harness replacement like in your case. The diagnostic scan after repair confirmed everything was working properly. Was definitely worth getting it resolved properly, since having a working emergency call system is crucial for car safety. The original malfunction warnings have completely disappeared from the dash.

Thanks for the update. My repair experience was quite different. Finally found a certified automotive electronics specialist who properly diagnosed the telematics control module issue. The total cost came to 850 Euro including parts and labor, which was steep but worth it for the peace of mind. The system reset and complete rewiring resolved all emergency call system malfunctions. Initially went to a general mechanic who missed the actual problem, wasting time and money. The specialist immediately identified the corroded connections causing the call failure warnings. After the repair, they ran multiple diagnostic scans to ensure the SOS function worked correctly. No warning lights or error messages since then. Really glad to have found someone who understood these complex car safety systems and could fix it right the first time.
