RS3 Transmission Warning Lights Signal Sensor Failure

Hi, my 2022 Audi RS3 (133299km) is acting up and I need advice before heading back to a mechanic. The transmission has been shifting rough lately with grinding sounds, and now both the engine and transmission warning lights are on. The car went into limp mode yesterday. My previous mechanic experience wasnt great, and I strongly suspect a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their RS3? What was the actual issue and repair cost? The car runs on gas and was fine until last week.

Having experienced similar symptoms in my 2019 Audi S3 with the transmission fault warning, I can relate to this situation. The rough shifting combined with grinding sounds often points to low transmission oil level or a failing transmission sensor. In my case, when the transmission warning appeared and the car went into limp mode, the initial diagnosis revealed a faulty transmission oil pressure sensor. However, after further inspection, the actual problem was more serious, the transmission oil level was critically low due to a slow leak at the transmission pan gasket. The repair required: Replacement of the transmission pan gasket, New transmission fluid, Replacement of the transmission oil pressure sensor, Full transmission system diagnostic This was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention. Driving with low transmission oil can cause permanent damage to the transmission components. The grinding noise you describe matches what I experienced and suggests the transmission is already under stress. The combination of warning lights and limp mode activation is the transmission control modules way of protecting itself from further damage. I would strongly advise against continuing to drive the vehicle until its properly diagnosed and repaired.

Wow, sounds exactly like the problem I dealt with last year on my RS3. The transmission issues started the same way, rough shifting, weird grinding, and those annoying warning lights. The pressure sensor was acting up and sending false readings to the transmission control unit. Before jumping to conclusions about a major transmission problem, get the pressure sensor checked first. The oil pressure sensor fault can trigger those exact symptoms and its usually a much cheaper fix than a full transmission repair. Did you end up getting it fixed already? Would be helpful to know your repair costs so I can compare, mine was resolved with a new transmission pressure switch, but I wonder if prices have changed since then. Have you noticed any other issues popping up after getting the initial problem sorted?

Thanks for the follow up. Yes, I got it fixed last week and fortunately the transmission oil pressure sensor fault was the main culprit, just like you experienced. The mechanic found the transmission oil level was also running low, which contributed to the rough shifting and grinding sounds. The total repair came to 365 Euro, which covered: New transmission oil pressure sensor, Transmission oil top up, Full diagnostic scan, Labor costs Since the repair, the transmission has been shifting smoothly with no warning lights or limp mode issues. The grinding noise completely disappeared once the proper oil level was restored and the faulty sensor replaced. The mechanic confirmed that catching these transmission issues early likely prevented more extensive damage. Having the oil level and pressure sensor working correctly is crucial for protecting transmission components from wear. No other problems have shown up after the fix. The car runs perfectly now, just like it did before these transmission issues started.

I just got back from the mechanic after getting everything fixed. My transmission issues turned out to be related to the oil pressure sensor, plus the transmission oil level needed adjustment. The mechanic found low transmission oil was causing the rough shifting, and a faulty pressure gauge was sending incorrect readings. The repair took about 4 hours total. They replaced the transmission oil pressure sensor, topped up the fluid, and ran a complete system check. Total cost came to 410 Euro, which was actually less than I feared. Since the fix, no more grinding sounds or warning lights. The transmission shifts perfectly now and no limp mode issues. Really glad I caught this before it caused serious transmission damage. Big relief it wasnt a major transmission rebuild, which could have cost thousands. Going to keep a closer eye on the transmission oil level from now on. Thanks for all the helpful advice. For anyone else seeing similar symptoms, definitely get it checked right away, these transmission issues can get expensive if left too long.
