Thanks for sharing your wiring issue experience. Currently dealing with a similar warning situation on my RS4. After reading your detailed explanation, sounds exactly like what mine is doing with the oil temperature sensor acting up. Question, do you recall the total repair cost for fixing the wiring harness and cleaning those corroded connections? Also, has everything worked properly since the repair or have you noticed any other temp sensor related issues popping up? This info would really help me budget for the upcoming repair and know what to watch for afterward. Definitely planning to have it checked soon given what you mentioned about the engine protection systems.

Just wanted to update on my S4 engine sensor repair situation. Since having the mechanic fix the faulty engine oil temperature sensor last month, all warning lights have stayed off and readings are stable. Total cost came to 95 Euro for repairing the cable and plug connection, much cheaper than replacing the entire sensor unit. The temperature sensor readings have been completely reliable after fixing that corroded wiring. My engine temperature gauge now shows consistent values, and the oil pressure warnings have completely disappeared. The repair has held up well with no recurring issues. Based on my experience, having a proper diagnosis done first saved money since the problem was just a damaged connection rather than a failed sensor. The mechanic confirmed the original sensor was still working correctly once the wiring was repaired. If your RS4 is showing similar symptoms, its likely the same straightforward fix. Just make sure they thoroughly check the wiring and connections before automatically replacing the sensor itself.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to share how it went. The diagnosis confirmed a corroded connection at the oil temperature sensor, very similar to what you described. Total repair cost was 120 Euro for cleaning the connections and replacing a small section of the wiring harness. The temp sensor itself tested fine once they fixed the wiring. The whole job took about 2 hours. All warning lights are now off and the engine oil temperature readings are stable. Really glad I asked here first, saved me from unnecessarily replacing the entire sensor unit. The mechanic also showed me the corroded connector to confirm the diagnosis. Would definitely recommend getting these automotive sensor issues checked promptly. Will keep monitoring the readings for a few weeks to ensure everything stays fixed, but so far the repair seems solid.

Had the same oil temp sensor problem with my 2011 S4. The engine temperature and oil pressure warnings appeared simultaneously, triggering multiple diagnostic codes. The automotive sensor issue turned out to be a faulty wiring connection at the temp sensor plug, not the sensor itself. The connector had corrosion buildup causing intermittent readings. Car diagnostics revealed the exact location near the oil filter housing. This needs prompt attention since incorrect temperature readings can affect engine protection systems. The repair involved cleaning the connector pins and replacing the wiring harness section leading to the sensor. The original sensor was tested and functioned properly. A professional mechanic should check this soon, as incorrect oil temperature readings can mask actual engine temperature issues. The repair process took about 3 hours at the shop, with most time spent accessing the sensor location. Just ensure they properly test both the sensor and wiring before replacing parts. Using a dedicated diagnostic tool will pinpoint if its truly a sensor failure or connection issue.
