RS6 Air Suspension Failure Causing Uneven Ride Height

Last service was at 12000KM, and Im posting an update after checking a few things. The height inconsistency does get worse in cold weather. The leveling system tries to adjust when starting but fails to maintain proper height. After inspecting the suspension components, I noticed the load sensor wiring harness shows signs of wear, and the height sensor mounting bracket appears slightly loose. The ride height fluctuates more during highway driving, suggesting the leveling sensor might be struggling to get accurate readings at higher speeds. Really hoping to avoid a complete suspension overhaul if its just a sensor issue.

Thanks for the update, those symptoms align perfectly with what I experienced. The cold weather sensitivity and highway fluctuations are telltale signs of leveling sensor issues. When my RS7 showed these exact problems, we first addressed the height sensor mounting bracket and wiring before considering more extensive repairs. The looseness you found in the height sensor bracket is particularly significant. In my case, tightening the mounting bracket and replacing the worn wiring harness for the load sensor resolved about 80% of the issues. The remaining problems were fixed by calibrating the ride height control system after the repairs. Total repair cost was around 280 Euro, mainly for the new wiring harness and labor. This was far better than the potential 2000 Euro+ for a full automotive suspension overhaul. The erratic behavior during highway speeds cleared up completely once the leveling sensor was properly secured and recalibrated. Given the similarities to my experience, I would strongly suggest having the workshop focus on: 1. Securing the height sensor mounting bracket 2. Replacing the worn load sensor wiring harness 3. Performing a full system calibration Worth noting that postponing these repairs could lead to inaccurate load sensing and potentially cause more serious suspension damage over time.

I appreciate all the detailed feedback, especially regarding the cold weather sensitivity. After discussing this with my workshop, they confirmed the control module is likely getting incorrect signals due to the loose height sensor mounting bracket and damaged wiring harness. They quoted 320 Euro for the complete repair, including new wiring, bracket reinforcement, and leveling system calibration. This seems reasonable compared to a full suspension overhaul. The automotive suspension specialist mentioned they see this issue frequently with these models and assured me the ride height problems should be fully resolved once the height adjustment components are properly secured and rewired. I've scheduled the repair for next week. Will definitely post another update after the work is done to confirm if this fixes both the height control issues and the warning lights. Really hoping this targeted repair of the leveling system components will get everything back to normal operation.

As someone with some hands-on experience with air suspension systems, I dealt with a very similar issue on my 2019 RS7. The symptoms you describe, uneven ride height, misaligned headlights, and warning lights, match what I experienced perfectly. In my case, the height sensor was giving incorrect readings due to a faulty control rod connection. The air suspension system was getting confused by the wrong sensor input, causing the uneven ride height. After diagnosis, the workshop found the control rod on the height sensor was defective and needed replacement. The repair was straightforward and cost 110 Euro, including parts and labor. Since the fix, the ride height has been perfectly balanced, and the warning lights disappeared completely. However, to provide more specific guidance for your situation, could you share: Have you noticed if the height inconsistency varies with temperature? Does the car level itself when you start the engine? Are there any specific driving conditions when the issue becomes worse? Have you checked the load sensor connections for visible damage? These details would help determine if your issue is identical to what I encountered or if it might be something different in the air suspension system.
