RS6 Washer & Headlight Spray Systems Mysteriously Fail
Summary of the thread
The 2021 RS6 experienced a complete failure of both the windshield washer spray and headlight cleaning systems. The core problem was identified as severe corrosion at the pump and damaged wiring, likely due to water intrusion. Suggested solutions included checking the pump sound, inspecting fuses, and examining cable connections. Repairs involved replacing the pump unit, rewiring, and sealing connections to prevent future issues. The resolution ensured both systems functioned correctly, avoiding potential electrical damage and maintaining proper headlight cleaning, especially important for vehicles with Xenon or LED headlights.

Exactly the same fault appeared on my Audi RS6 last winter. After the headlight washer malfunctioned, the windshield system followed within days. Quick inspection revealed corroded wiring at the pump, plus the connector was damaged. Repair involved new pump unit, wiring harness, and proper sealing. Everything works perfectly now with no issues. The mechanic also found a small crack in one washer fluid line while doing the work. Did you remember what the total repair cost was in your case? Any other electrical problems show up since the fix?

Thanks for the update on your RS6. Great to hear you got it sorted. Similar situation to what I had, my repair for the washer malfunction came to 165 Euro at the dealer. This covered fixing the cable connection at the pump and replacing a faulty relay. The headlight cleaning system works flawlessly now with no electrical gremlins since the repair. They installed better waterproofing around the connections which should prevent future corrosion issues. Important fix especially for LED and Xenon headlight systems that rely on regular cleaning. No leaks or other electrical problems have surfaced in the year since getting it fixed. Money well spent considering how critical proper visibility is, particularly in winter conditions. Good they caught that cracked washer line during the repair, those can lead to bigger issues if left unchecked.

Just got back from the mechanic after dealing with this washer system fault. Total bill came to 280 Euro, bit more than expected but they found additional issues while doing the work. Main pump needed full replacement due to severe corrosion. They also discovered a hidden leak in the headlight washer hose that was causing the system to lose pressure. Everything was thoroughly tested after repairs, both windshield and headlight cleaning now work perfectly. Mechanic showed me the old corroded parts and explained how water intrusion caused the electrical failure. They applied extra sealant around all connections to prevent future issues. Whole job took about 3 hours but worth every cent for peace of mind. Good thing I caught it early before the fault could cause more extensive electrical damage. No other problems have shown up since the fix. Thanks for all the helpful advice here, saved me from getting overcharged at the dealer.

Had the same problem with my 2018 RS4. The washer malfunction turned out to be a faulty pump relay connection. First checks you can do: Listen for pump sound when activating washers, Check fuse box for blown washer pump fuse, Inspect cable connections near the pump, Test if headlight cleaning system makes any noise In my case, water had corroded the main pump connector, causing both the windshield and headlight cleaning systems to fail. The repair involved replacing the entire pump assembly and rewiring the connection point with better waterproofing. This was a moderate repair job, not engine-critical but needed professional attention. The issue can worsen if left unchecked, as continued exposure to washer fluid can damage surrounding components. A qualified mechanic should: Test electrical connections, Pressure test the system for leaks, Check pump functionality, Inspect washer fluid lines, Verify headlight washer operation Worth getting fixed properly to avoid potential electrical issues and ensure proper headlight cleaning system function, especially if you have Xenon or LED headlights that require regular cleaning.
