RS7 Stability Issues: ABS & ESC Sensors Acting Up

Looking for help with my 2014 RS7. The electronic stability and ABS systems are acting up, both warning lamps are illuminated on the dash and the car feels unstable during cornering. Scanning showed errors related to the lateral sensor. Has anyone encountered similar issues with their RS7? Particularly interested in the diagnostic steps your workshop took and the actual fix. Would appreciate insights on whether this typically requires just a sensor replacement or if there might be other underlying problems to check.

Having faced a similar situation with my 2016 RS6, I can share some relevant experience as a car enthusiast with moderate technical knowledge. The vehicle stability and traction control issues you describe match what I encountered. My diagnostic scan also showed lateral sensor-related errors, affecting the electronic control systems. The steering angle sensor readings were inconsistent, triggering both ABS and stability control warnings. After taking it to a specialized workshop, they performed a comprehensive diagnostic check. The root cause turned out to be a defective control unit, which was managing both the ABS and stability systems. The complete fix, including parts and labor, cost around 1000 Euro. Before recommending specific solutions, could you provide: Current mileage, Any recent work done on suspension or steering, Whether the issue appeared suddenly or gradually, If you notice any correlation with weather conditions, Complete fault codes from your diagnostic scan This information would help determine if your case matches mine or might have a different underlying cause.

Thank you for the detailed information. My RS7 has 73101 KM and had its last service 3 months ago with no suspension work done. The electronic stability warning appeared suddenly during normal driving. A wheel alignment check was completed but showed no issues. The diagnostic scan points to a faulty lateral sensor, but I want to be certain before replacing parts. The instability during cornering is especially concerning since it impacts vehicle stability control.

Thanks for providing those details. Based on what you've described about your RS7, this definitely mirrors my RS6 experience, especially with the sudden onset of warnings. The similar mileage and stability issues during cornering strongly suggest a lateral sensor malfunction affecting the yaw rate calculations. In my case, after the initial diagnosis pointing to the lateral sensor, we discovered the sensor itself was correctly reporting data, but the electronic control unit was misinterpreting the signals. The traction control system was getting incorrect input, leading to those cornering stability issues you mentioned. A key indicator in your situation is that the wheel alignment checked out fine. This matches my experience, the mechanical components were sound, but the electronic systems were misbehaving. Given the identical symptoms and error patterns, I'd recommend having the workshop: 1. Test the lateral sensor signal output directly 2. Check the connection between the sensor and control unit 3. Verify if the steering angle sensor readings align with actual wheel position 4. Run a complete diagnostic on the ABS module The repair cost me 1000 Euro, but yours might vary depending on whether its just the sensor or if the control unit needs replacement like in my case.

Thanks for all the input about the RS6 situation. After reading about your experience, I'm getting my RS7 checked tomorrow at a specialized workshop. The similarities between our cases are striking, especially how the electronic stability warnings appeared suddenly and the cornering issues match exactly what you described. The safety warning lights are my main concern, as I rely on these vehicle stability systems, particularly in wet conditions. What you mentioned about the control unit misinterpreting signals makes sense, since my wheel alignment is perfect but the car still feels unstable. I will ask them to follow the diagnostic steps you suggested, focusing on both the lateral sensor and the electronic control unit. Will update once I know if its just a sensor replacement or if I need the full control unit replaced like in your case. The 1000 Euro repair cost gives me a good baseline for what to expect. Good to know the fix resolved all your stability issues completely. Hoping for the same outcome with my RS7.
