RSQ3 Key Fob Not Working: Dead Battery vs Other Issues

My RSQ3 has suddenly stopped responding to keyless entry. The car fob wont unlock or lock the doors anymore, and I noticed a key battery low warning. While I suspect its a battery issue, Id like to hear from others who faced similar problems. Was replacing the key fob battery enough to fix it, or did your workshop find other underlying issues? Also interested to know if error codes were involved and how they were resolved. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

Had a similar issue with my Q3 40 TFSI from 2020, so I can share some insights based on moderate experience with key fob problems. The symptoms match exactly what happened to my car key. The key fob battery was depleted, causing the keyless entry to stop working. Got a key battery low warning on the dashboard too. Took it to the workshop and they confirmed it was just a simple battery replacement needed. The whole key fob battery service cost 37 Euro, including the new battery and labor. They used a CR2032 battery type for the replacement. The job took about 15 minutes and fixed all issues, keyless entry started working perfectly again. No error codes were involved in my case, it was purely a depleted battery problem. To help you better, could you share: Build year of your RSQ3, Whether you see any other warning lights, If the physical key inside the fob still works for manual entry, How long youve been getting the battery warning This would help determine if your situation matches my experience or might need different attention.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the electronic key issue. Just had my 39235 KM service done recently, so the timing of this problem is quite frustrating. The regular metal key inside the fob still works manually, which made me think the key battery was indeed the culprit. I opened the fob and noticed the CR2032 battery looks quite corroded. After seeing your reply, I feel more confident its just a dead key battery issue rather than something more serious. Would be helpful to know if you had any relearning procedure done after the battery replacement, or if it started working right away?

Thanks for the follow-up. Good to hear the metal key still works, that matches my experience exactly with the auto key problem. After the key battery replacement, my fob worked instantly with no relearning needed. The electronic key functions, including keyless entry, restored automatically once the new battery was properly seated. The corrosion you mentioned is quite common with aging CR2032 batteries in key fobs. Just a heads up though, when I replaced my low battery, I made sure to use a quality brand CR2032. The workshop mentioned cheap batteries can lead to more frequent key fob battery issues and potential corrosion problems. The process was really straightforward: Remove old battery, Clean any residue from contacts, Insert new battery, Test all functions Since you mentioned your car just had service, its worth noting the key battery condition isnt typically checked during regular maintenance. The fob battery usually lasts 2-3 years before showing low battery warnings. All keyless functions should work normally right after replacing the battery, no additional programming required in most cases.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I went ahead and replaced the car key battery today, got a quality CR2032 for 12 Euro from an electronics store. Just as you mentioned, the keyless entry started working immediately after installing the new battery, with no relearning needed. The corrosion cleanup was a bit tricky, but I managed to clean the contacts carefully with some electronic contact cleaner. Now the dead key issue is completely resolved, all functions including the keyless entry are working perfectly again. Really glad it turned out to be just a simple fob battery replacement rather than a more complex electronic problem. Will definitely keep an eye on the battery age going forward to avoid similar issues. Thanks again for helping me confirm the diagnosis and sharing your experiences.
