RX Seat Heater Failure

Alright Lexus gurus, I'm pulling my hair out! My 2014 Lexus RX hybrid's seat heater is toast. The massage function works fine, but the seat warmer refuses to get warm. And just to add insult to injury, there's an error code popping up in the system. Any ideas? I'm thinking it's the seat heating mat itself but I'm open to suggestions before I start tearing things apart.

Interesting. I had a similar problem with my RX (can't remember the exact year). 'Seat heating does not get warm', eh? Did you by any chance check the simple stuff, like the thermal sensor under the seat? Sometimes those things get wonky and send false readings, shutting down the heater as a 'safety' measure. If it's throwing an error, it could also be a control module issue, but usually that affects both seats. Is it just the driver's seat?

Thanks for the quick reply! The thermal sensor, huh? Hadn't thought about that specifically. Where exactly is it located, and is there a simple way to test it? And yes, it's just the driver's seat that's acting up. The passenger side is toasty as can be.

Okay, driver's side only points more towards that mat or the sensor itself. The sensor is usually embedded in the heating mat, right under the seat upholstery. Testing it might be tricky without the right equipment. Honestly, given the error code and the localized problem, your best bet is probably a reliable workshop. I ended up having mine diagnosed professionally, and in the end it also turned out to be the heating mat itself with a broken sensor.

Appreciate the insight! Sounds like I was on the right track then. I bit the bullet and took it to my trusted shop this morning. You were spot on! They confirmed it - defective seat heating mat. Quoted me 390€ including parts and labor. Thanks again for sharing your experience; it gave me the confidence to skip the DIY route this time.
