S Klasse transmission problems

My 2012 Mercedes S Klasse with a gasoline engine is having some major transmission issues It's got 175814 km on the clock and now it won't start because it thinks it's not in park The check engine light is on and when it actually moves the gearbox is slipping like crazy I scanned it and it shows a defective control unit Could this be a faulty neutral position sensor or something with the gear linkage Or is it complete transmission failure and I'm in trouble Any ideas Has this happened to anyone

I had similar transmission issues on my S Klasse A defective control unit can cause all sorts of problems including shift lock malfunctions and the inability to start the car because it doesn't recognize the parking position Did the error code specifically mention the control unit being the issue Have you checked the transmission fluid level

The error code points to the control unit but doesn't specify why it's faulty Is there any way to test the gear linkage or shift lock mechanism myself before I assume the worst And where is the transmission fluid level indicator located I'm not really a mechanic you know

Testing the gear linkage requires specialized tools and knowledge Similarly the shift lock mechanism involves intricate electronics Accessing the transmission fluid level also requires specific procedures Given the symptoms and the error code I strongly suggest taking it to a workshop A defective control unit can lead to further transmission issues if not addressed promptly

Thanks for the advice I took it to a workshop and you were right It was indeed the control unit They replaced it and also refreshed the software Everything seems to be working fine now Cost me about 1000€ but at least it's fixed
