S10 diesel preheating lamp issue

Hi, I have a 2021 Chevrolet S10 with a diesel engine and I'm having some trouble. The preheating lamp doesn't switch off, and the check engine light is on. Also, there's smoke when accelerating. It has 126267 km. I checked some fuses, but everything seems ok. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Chevrolet S10 with a diesel engine had issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light on, and smoke during acceleration. The problem was suspected to be related to the preheating control unit, possibly due to an electrical fault such as a defective connection. The solution involved checking and fixing the cable and plug connections to the preheating control unit, which resolved the issue.

Oh, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old truck, though it wasn't a Chevy. Those preheating systems can be a real pain. The smoke thing is definitely not good. Has it been running rough at all? I'd be checking all the connections to the preheating control unit. Could be a simple electrical fault.

Thanks for the advice! Where exactly is the preheating control unit located? And what kind of electrical fault should I be looking for?

It's usually somewhere near the engine block, possibly mounted on the inner fender. Follow the preheater wires and you should find it. As for the electrical fault, start with the obvious: check the cable and plug connections. A defective connection can cause all sorts of weird problems. If that's not it, maybe the part is defective. But honestly, with those symptoms, you might be better off taking it to a workshop.

Thanks for the help! I took it to a local workshop, and you were right, it was a defective connection in the preheating control unit cable, as you suspected. They fixed the cable and plug connection, and it cost me 95€. Now everything seems to be working fine.
