S2000 Generator Fault
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2000 Honda S2000 experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light, poor starting, and flickering lights, with an error code stored. These symptoms suggest a potential generator issue. A faulty generator can cause such problems by failing to charge the battery properly, even if the battery is new. The recommended solution is to have the generator examined and possibly replaced by a professional, which was confirmed as the issue and subsequently repaired.

I haven't measured the voltage directly, but the starter motor seems to be working harder than usual. Could a failing generator cause these symptoms, even with a relatively new battery?

Absolutely. Even a new battery will drain quickly if the generator isn't charging it properly. Given the weak start, flickering lights, error codes, and struggling starter motor, it's very likely the generator is defective. It should be examined and possibly replaced by a professional.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I appreciate the advice. It was indeed a defective generator. The repair cost 960€.

Those symptoms definitely point to a charging problem! A faulty generator could be the reason. Have you seen any voltage drop when starting? Or any unusual misfires, especially under load?
