S40 Airbag Warning Light
Summary of the thread
The airbag warning light on a 2012 Volvo S40 diesel with 242,400 km could indicate a serious issue. A common cause is a loose or corroded connection, particularly the yellow plug for the side airbag sensor under the passenger seat. While checking and adjusting the connection might resolve the issue, due to the sensitivity of airbag systems, it is advisable to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the problem to ensure safety.

Could you please provide more specifics on which connection or plug you are referring to? I am not very experienced with car maintenance, so additional details would be helpful.

It was the yellow plug - the one for the side airbag sensor in the seat. Apparently, they're known for getting loose or corroded. I'd say take a look, but honestly, these things are sensitive. If you aren't totally sure, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. Mine cost me 95€ in the end, and at least I know everything is shipshape for safety.

I appreciate the information and the advice. Given my lack of experience, I will proceed by taking the vehicle to a trusted workshop for diagnostics and repair. The expected costs seem reasonable. Thank you again for your time and assistance.

SRS light is never good! I had the same thing happen on my S40. Turned out to be a dodgy connection under the passenger seat. Have you checked the plugs under there? Might be worth a wiggle before you panic.
