S40 Headlight Leveling Problem
Summary of the thread
The 2001 Volvo S40 has a headlight leveling issue, indicated by a warning light and misaligned low beams. The problem could stem from a faulty servomotor or wiring issues. Inspection of the auto-leveling system, including fuses, relays, and servomotors, is recommended. Ultimately, a defective servomotor and corroded contacts were identified and repaired, resolving the issue.

Fuses and relays are fine. Haven't checked the servomotors themselves. What steps did you take to diagnose it? Did you also get an error message?

Yep, error message too. I went straight to my workshop. They said it was a faulty servomotor and bad electrical connectors. Replacing the servomotor and cleaning the connections fixed it. Sometimes it's best to let experts handle the lighting system.

Thanks for the guidance. Took it to a shop, and it was a defective servomotor with corroded contacts, like you said. Repair was 1040€. Lighting system's working and auto-leveling is back.

Had a similar issue with my S40. Sounds like you should inspect the auto-leveling system. Have you checked the fuses and relays? Light intensity can cause this as well.
