S40 NOx Catalyst Exhaust Leak

My 2012 Volvo S40 with a gasoline engine has a check engine light at 91227 kilometers. Error memory says it's a NOx efficiency fault and I hear an exhaust leak. I think the leak is causing the catalyst issue. Anyone seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Volvo S40 owner reported a check engine light and a NOx efficiency fault, suspecting an exhaust leak as the cause. Another individual with a similar experience suggested that an exhaust leak could indeed affect the NOx catalyst. The owner confirmed that fixing the exhaust leak resolved the catalyst issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had something similar happen on my S40. Check engine light and all. I wasn't sure what was going on. Was your fuel economy also bad?

Yes, I've seen a small drop in fuel efficiency. What happened with yours? Any details on the diagnosis or what you did to fix it would be great.

Yeah, the fuel economy was the first thing I noticed, then the light came on. I didn't mess with it myself; took it straight to a workshop. They found a small hole in the exhaust. Might be worth getting yours checked.

Thanks! Sounds like the exhaust leak is messing with the NOx catalyst. I'll get the exhaust checked out. Just got it back, it was a leak that caused the catalyst problem. Cost 265€ to fix the exhaust system. Thanks again.
