S40 Solar Sensor Fault

I'm having a solar sensor fault with my 2008 Volvo S40 diesel. Only 47740 km on the clock. Getting an error stored and the heating output is too low. Diagnostics suggest a cable or plug connection issue. Anyone else seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Volvo S40 diesel is experiencing a solar sensor fault, resulting in low heating output and an error stored in the system. Diagnostics suggest the issue may be due to a cable or plug connection problem. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by checking the wiring harness and connectors, leading to the recommendation of a thorough inspection or consulting a trusted workshop. The problem was ultimately resolved by fixing a defective cable connection.

Interesting! Sounds awfully familiar. Though I drive a 2012 Citroen C4, I had a similar problem last year. 'Error stored in the error memory', yup, saw that myself. My mechanic initially suspected the temperature sensor. Could it be a similar gremlin affecting your Volvo? What readings are you getting from the sensor? Are they within the specified range?

Thanks for the response. Could you elaborate on the 'specified range' you refer to for the sensor readings? Also, what diagnostic procedures did you use to find the fault in your Citroen C4? Any guidance appreciated.

Well, in my case with the Citroen, the readings were consistently outside the norm, even after recalibration. It was clear something was fundamentally wrong. After a lot of head-scratching, my mechanic pinpointed it to a faulty connection, just like your diagnostics suggest. Honestly, tracing those wires is a pain. Given your symptoms and the error code, and considering my own frustrating experience, I'd suggest a thorough check of the wiring harness and connectors. But if you're not comfortable doing that yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop. It might save you a lot of time and headache.

Thanks for the insights and shared experiences. I consulted a trusted workshop, and they quickly found and fixed the defective cable connection. Cost 95€. Your help sped things up.
