Hissing, you say? I haven't really listened closely, but I'll check that out. Where exactly is the purge valve located? Any chance you remember the specific code you were getting? Just trying to narrow things down before I start ripping everything apart!

Okay, hissing can be faint, so listen carefully near the rear. The purge valve is usually near the engine, follow the lines coming from the charcoal canister. As for the code, I honestly can't remember exactly what it was. It's been a while. But if you are not confident, I would recommend going to the workshop. I had the same symptoms and it was a defective activated charcoal filter.

Thanks a million! Knowing someone else battled the same gremlin makes me feel a lot better. I'll trace those lines and see what I can find. If I'm striking out, I'll bite the bullet and take it in. Turns out it WAS the charcoal filter, as you suspected! Cost me 275€ to get it sorted, but at least the stalling is gone!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my S40 – though not sure about the year – but those symptoms are spot on. Did you notice any hissing sounds near the fuel tank or any issues when filling up? Also, have you checked the purge valve? That can sometimes cause issues with the EVAP system and throw a code.
