S60 Central Locking Failure

Hi, I've got a 2002 Volvo S60 with a gasoline engine and the central locking has completely stopped working. I can no longer lock or unlock the doors using the remote or the key. VADIS is showing an error stored in the error memory, pointing towards a cable or plug connection issue. Mileage is only 41962 km. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hey there, I had a similar gremlin in my S60. The symptoms sound eerily familiar. Check your fuses first, especially the one for the central locking system. It's a long shot, but worth a look before diving deeper. Also, inspect the wiring harness where it enters the door – those wires can get brittle and crack over time.

Thanks for the quick response! Which fuse number specifically controls the central locking? I had a quick look in the fuse box, but couldn't find an obvious label pointing to the door locks. And good point about the wiring harness – I'll check that out too, but where exactly is it located?

Right, the fuse diagram is usually tucked inside the fuse box cover. It might be labeled 'Central Locking' or something similar, but Volvo's labeling can be cryptic. As for the wiring harness, it's the bundle of wires going from the car body into the door, usually protected by a rubber boot. But honestly, with a stored error and complete failure, and with an estimated repair cost of 95€, you may just have to bite the bullet and get it checked out by a workshop.

Thanks a lot for your help! I checked the wiring harness as you suggested, but didn't find any obvious breaks. I'll take your advice and bring it to the workshop next week. Hopefully, it's just a simple fix. They quoted 95€, so it shouldn't hurt too much.
