S60 diesel DPF failure
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Volvo S60 diesel with 40017 km is experiencing reduced engine power and excessive smoke, likely due to a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) failure. The engine light is also on, indicating a more serious issue than a minor sensor problem. Cleaning the DPF did not resolve the issue for another owner, suggesting replacement might be necessary. Ultimately, the DPF was confirmed defective and replaced, restoring the car's performance.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Yes, the engine light came on a few days ago. I was hoping it was just a minor sensor issue, but your experience suggests otherwise. Did cleaning the DPF help, or did you have to replace it? Also, did you notice any decrease in fuel efficiency before the problem became obvious?

Cleaning didn't solve the issue for me. The backpressure was still too high. I recommend checking with a workshop.

I took your advice and brought my car to a trusted mechanic. They confirmed that the DPF was defective and needed replacement. The total repair cost came out to be around 1550€. It's a hefty sum, but at least the car is running smoothly again. I appreciate your help.

I had similar issues with my S60. Reduced power and smoke point to DPF problems. Have you noticed any engine light?
