S60 Diesel Engine Running Lean
Summary of the thread
The 2007 Volvo S60 diesel is experiencing symptoms of running lean, including reduced engine power, intermittent check engine light, rough running, and jerking during acceleration. The issue could be due to a defective fuel injector, as confirmed by a Volvo technician. Another potential cause suggested was a dirty EGR valve, which can also affect the air-fuel ratio. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional to identify the exact cause.

Thanks. Can you give me more details about what you experienced, and did it seem like a lean running issue according to any diagnostics?

Okay, so my check engine light was flashing like a disco. The car felt like it was choking, especially when cold. Yeah, the air-fuel ratio was way off according to the garage. I'm no expert but the mechanic said a dirty EGR valve can mess with that. Honestly, just take it to a workshop, they will be able to diagnose it in a few hours.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I checked with a Volvo technician, and it turned out to be a defective fuel injector causing the lean mixture. Cost me 515€.

Whoa, sounds nasty! I had something similar with my S60. Check engine light going nuts, felt like it was gonna stall every time I hit the gas. I bet it's the EGR valve. Mine was totally gunked up. Could be worth a peek before you go tearing into the fuel system. Just my two cents!
