S60 Diesel Oil Pressure Warning
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Volvo S60 diesel exhibited a warning light on the speedometer and an oil pressure warning, suspected to be due to contaminated engine oil. The core problem was identified as an overdue oil change, leading to oil breakdown and sludge formation, which can block oil passages and reduce oil pressure. The suggested solution was to avoid driving the vehicle and promptly take it to a workshop for an oil change and cleaning to prevent engine damage.

Thanks. The oil change might be overdue, I confess. Could going past the interval really cause such bad oil contamination and trigger these lights?

Yes, absolutely. With modern engines and tight tolerances, skipping oil changes can lead to the oil breaking down and forming sludge. This can block oil passages, reducing oil pressure and triggering the warning lights. Given the symptoms and the overdue oil change, I wouldn't drive it. Take it to a workshop ASAP to prevent engine damage.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local shop. The problem was an exceeded maintenance interval, causing oil contamination. An oil change and cleaning cost 165€.

That sounds concerning. Volvos, especially diesels, can be sensitive to oil quality. When was your last oil change? Going past the maintenance interval is a common cause of oil sludge, which can trigger those lights. Have you noticed any changes in engine performance or unusual noises?
