I ended up taking mine to a workshop. They found a defective cable or plug connection, just as you suspected. Cost me around 95€. Honestly, for the hassle, it was worth it. Sometimes it's better to let professionals handle it. Could be that the door latch is broken, too.

I had a similar issue with my S60. Sounds like what happened to me. Automatic locks going haywire like that. Did you check the car sensor? Could be a sign of something bigger, like a fuse problem. But it could also be a short circuit in the door latch.
