S60 Overvoltage Problems

I'm experiencing an overvoltage issue with my 2003 Volvo S60 diesel (206753 km). The fault memory has numerous overvoltage entries, leading to system failures. The battery seems weak when starting, and there are general electrical malfunctions. Could a discharged or defective battery be the primary cause?

Hey, I know this issue! I also have an S60 diesel, and it sounds a lot like what happened to me last year. Did you check the alternator? All those electrical gremlins could be a sign that your voltage regulator is shot. Mine was putting out way too much juice and fried a bunch of sensors before I figured it out. Has anything else happened, like the headlights flickering?

Thank you for your response. I have not yet checked the alternator specifically. How did you confirm that the voltage regulator was the problem? And what other symptoms did you observe besides flickering headlights?

No worries. I checked the voltage at the battery with a multimeter while the engine was running, and it was way above the normal range – closer to 16 volts instead of 14. As for other symptoms, the ABS and traction control lights were on constantly, and the radio would randomly cut out. Honestly, I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop; you don't want to risk damaging the ECU.

I appreciate the additional details and the recommendation. Based on this, I will take the vehicle to a workshop for a thorough diagnosis. It was indeed the voltage regulator. I had it replaced, and the final repair cost me 290€. Thank you for your help.
