S60 reduced engine power

Hi, I have a 2012 Volvo S60 with a gasoline engine. Lately, the check engine light comes on, and the car feels like it has reduced engine power and poor engine response. Fuel consumption is also higher. The OBD reader says something about a crankshaft to camshaft reference value. Could a defective crankshaft sensor cause these problems?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my S60. Did you check for any misfire codes? It could also be related to the cam sensor. Has the timing belt been changed recently?

Misfire codes? No, I only saw the crankshaft/camshaft reference value error. Timing belt was changed 2 years ago. Could a faulty cam sensor really cause that reference value issue?

Yes, it's possible. In my case, the reference value error pointed to a faulty crankshaft sensor. Given all the symptoms, it might be best to get it checked at a workshop. They can properly diagnose it.

Thanks for the help! Took it to a mechanic and you were right, the crankshaft sensor was defective. Cost me 340€ to repair.
