S60 Reduced Engine Power Fuel Filter Heater

I've got a 2004 Volvo S60 diesel with about 205k km on the clock. Recently, I'm getting a 'Reduced Engine Power' message, and the car feels sluggish. I've also noticed higher fuel consumption and a slightly uneven idle. I scanned for errors and it points to the fuel filter heater. I'm thinking it could be a bad connection somewhere. Has anyone else experienced this?

The symptoms you describe, in conjunction with the stored error code, strongly suggest a problem within the fuel filter heater circuit. Given the age of the vehicle, a thorough inspection of the cable and plug connections is advisable. Corrosion or physical damage can lead to the issues you are experiencing. Have you checked the voltage at the connector?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the voltage yet, but that's a good point. What voltage should I be seeing there, and where exactly is the best place to test it?

You should observe battery voltage at the connector with the ignition on. The connector is located directly on the fuel filter housing. However, considering your description and intermediate technical expertise, proceeding to a workshop for a professional assessment is recommended to prevent further complications.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to a shop, and you were spot on – corroded connector on the fuel filter heater. New connector and labor came out to 95€. Runs like new now!
