S7 Engine Mount Issues Causing Major Vibrations

Thanks for the feedback. My current mileage is 65421 KM and I actually noticed the vibrations are significantly worse in Drive compared to Neutral. The error codes I am getting point to the transmission mount area, which made my mechanic confident about his diagnosis. The rubber mount seems completely worn out based on a visual inspection. The transmission mount failure symptoms became more obvious over the last few weeks, particularly when shifting between Drive and Reverse. I am leaning towards replacing all motor mounts as preventive maintenance since accessing this area requires significant labor anyway. Just completed my regular service last month where this issue was not yet present.

Thanks for providing those details. Your symptoms definitely align with what I experienced, though my transmission mount failure manifested slightly differently. The increased vibration in Drive versus Neutral is a classic indicator of mount issues, matching exactly what I saw with my S6. The worn rubber mount condition you describe is typical, these transmission mounts often deteriorate gradually until reaching a critical point. When my mechanic accessed the area, we discovered that not just the transmission mount but also the engine mount showed significant wear, though it wasnt visible from outside. Your preventive approach to replacing all mounts makes sense financially. In my case, I ended up paying for labor twice because I only replaced the obviously failed mount initially, then had to go back for the others 3 months later. The complete mount replacement job cost me around 850 Euro including parts and labor. Given your mileage and the clear transmission mount failure symptoms, I would recommend: 1. Replace all motor mounts as a set 2. Use OEM parts for this repair 3. Have them check the wiring for the active mount system while everything is accessible This should resolve both the error codes and vibration issues you are experiencing.

Thanks for the detailed input. I think I will proceed with the complete mount replacement as suggested. After hearing about others experiencing similar defective engine mount issues, I feel more confident about this repair decision. The transmission mount failure symptoms match what many of you described perfectly. Going with OEM parts makes sense, especially since labor costs will be the same regardless. I will ask my mechanic to inspect the active mount system wiring while everything is apart. Better to address all potential issues during one repair session rather than risk having to revisit this later. Will book the repair next week and make sure they do a thorough inspection of both the engine mount and transmission mount components. The 850 Euro cost estimate seems reasonable for the complete job. Hopefully this will resolve both the vibration problems and error codes I have been experiencing.

Had a similar issue with my 2014 S6 last year. With some basic DIY experience, I initially tried diagnosing the vibration issues myself but quickly realized it needed professional attention. The symptoms you describe match my experience, rough idling and noticeable vibrations, particularly at standstill. In my case, the motor mount failure was actually caused by a faulty wiring connection that affected the active mount system. The workshop found a damaged cable harness near the mount. The repair cost me 95 Euro, which covered diagnosis and fixing the connection issue. Much better than replacing the entire mount assembly. However, mount wear can be tricky to diagnose as symptoms often overlap with other problems. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: Current mileage? Are the vibrations worse in Drive or Neutral? Have you noticed any clunking sounds when shifting gears? Which error codes are you getting specifically? This information would help determine if your issue matches the failed mount pattern I encountered or if there might be other underlying problems.
