S80 Airbag Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Volvo S80 owner is concerned about an airbag fault indicated by a persistent warning light. Despite checking for loose wires under the seats, the issue persists. It is suggested to scan for diagnostic trouble codes using an OBD2 scanner to identify the problem, which could be a defective cable or plug connection. After following the advice, the issue is diagnosed as a faulty connector, and the repair cost is relatively low, alleviating concerns about a major expense.

Scanned for trouble codes? I'm not sure how to do that. Is that something I can do myself, or do I need special equipment? If it is just a code, is there a chance it's related to an airbag recall?

Scanning requires an OBD2 scanner, which you can purchase or have a workshop do. While recalls are possible, a scan will pinpoint the fault, which could be a defective cable or plug connection. You can also check for an active recall with your VIN.

Thank you so much for the advice! I took it to a local garage, and they scanned the system. It was a faulty connector, just like you said! The total cost to fix it was only 95€! What a relief. I was expecting a much bigger problem. Thanks again!

It's not uncommon for Volvo S80s of that era to experience airbag issues. The warning light usually indicates a fault. Have you had the car scanned for diagnostic trouble codes? That would give you a clearer idea of the problem.
