S80 Audio System Failure
Summary of the thread
The audio system in a 2001 Volvo S80 diesel is non-functional, with an error stored, raising the question of whether a faulty display could be the cause. A similar issue in another vehicle was due to a fault in the central control unit affecting communication on the CAN bus. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed at a workshop, where it was confirmed that the display was defective.

Thanks, I checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Can you tell me more about the central control unit fault you had?

The BMW dealer confirmed the diagnosis. They said the control unit wasn't communicating properly on the CAN bus, which shut down the audio. Best bet is a workshop visit.

Thanks. I'll get it to a workshop to diagnose the audio system problem. The invoice came up to 725€ - the display was indeed defective.

I had a similar issue with my old BMW. The entire audio stopped – no radio, no CD, nothing. It was a fault in the central control unit. Have you checked the fuses and the connections to the head unit?
