S80 automatic transmission issue
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Volvo S80 with an automatic transmission is experiencing shifting issues, with the transmission light on and occasionally entering emergency mode. The problem is more pronounced when the engine is warmed up. A potential cause identified is low voltage affecting the electronic control units, including the transmission control module. The suggested solution is to check the charging system, which in this case revealed undervoltage, and after addressing it and flushing the transmission oil, the car's performance improved significantly.

It seems to happen more when it's warmed up, actually. I haven't checked the fluid level myself. As for the battery, I replaced it about a year ago. What kind of weird issues are we talking about regarding low voltage?

Low voltage can mess with the electronic control units, including the transmission control module. This can lead to the symptoms you're describing. I'd suggest getting the charging system checked. In my case, it ended up being a faulty voltage regulator. Best to get it diagnosed at a shop.

Thanks for the tip! Took it to a shop, and you were spot on. Turns out there was undervoltage! They flushed the transmission oil while they were at it. Cost me 240€, but it's driving like new again!

I had a similar issue with my S80. Is it only happening when the engine is cold, or does it happen all the time? Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Also, has the battery been checked lately? Low voltage can cause some pretty strange issues with these cars.
