S80 Automatic Transmission Problem

Having trouble with my 2008 Volvo S80 diesel. At 48558 kilometers, the engine won't start in park, check engine light is on, gearbox slips, and there's an error code pointing to a defective control unit. Anyone else experienced this with their Volvo S80? Repair cost is about 1000€.

Hey, that sounds rough. I had something similar happen with my old Renault a few years back. Engine wouldn't start sometimes, and the gear shifts felt clunky. The check engine light was always on too. It turned out to be some sensor related to the gear shifter, messing everything up. Is the Volvo showing any specific error codes?

Yes, there's a specific code indicating a fault within the transmission control module, potentially affecting the park brake engagement and overall gear selection logic. Could you elaborate on the specific sensor that failed in your Renault, and if that failure also prevented starting the car?

Yeah, the Renault thing totally prevented the car from starting sometimes. It was a sensor on the gear stick itself that tells the car what position its in. I'm no mechanic, but from what you're saying, with your Volvo needing a whole new control module, it sounds like a workshop job to me. Better get it checked before you cause any more damage.

I appreciate your input and shared experience. Based on your recommendation, I'll consult a qualified workshop to address the issue with the transmission control module. Thanks again for your time and assistance.
