S80 Cold Start Issue

Having difficulty starting my 2005 S80 with a gasoline engine, around 120000 km on it. Starts poorly until warm. Thinking it could be the cold start injector?

Summary of the thread

The 2005 S80 is experiencing difficulty starting when cold, which improves once the engine warms up. The issue may be related to a defective cold start injector or a clogged fuel filter. A mechanic confirmed a defective injector, and the replacement resolved the problem.

Had similar cold start issues with my old Saab 9-5. Rough running for a few minutes. Maybe a blocked or dirty injector? Have you tried injector cleaner? When was the last fuel filter change? A clogged filter restricts fuel flow, causing similar problems.

Thanks for the quick reply. Fuel filter hasn't been changed in about 40000 km. How much did the Saab fix cost? Did injector cleaning work, or did you replace them?

Cleaning helped temporarily, but the problem returned. Ended up replacing all injectors, cost around 600€. Given your Volvo's age, a mechanic's diagnostic test could pinpoint the injector and assess the fuel system. Get a professional opinion before buying parts.

Thanks for the help. Mechanic confirmed a defective injector. Replacement, with labor, cost 515€.
