S80 diesel whistling noise and power loss
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Volvo S80 diesel exhibited a check engine light, reduced engine power, and a whistling noise, with diagnostics indicating an issue with the charge air temperature sensor. The problem was suspected to be a defect in the sensor's cable or plug connection. A similar case involved a faulty airflow sensor, suggesting a potential sensor or wiring issue. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be a defective cable for the charge air temperature sensor, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

Thank you for your response. Could you elaborate on the specific nature of the airflow sensor issue you experienced? Was it a faulty sensor, a wiring problem, or something else entirely?

In my case, the mechanic identified it as a faulty sensor, causing incorrect readings. I had it replaced and the issue was resolved. I would suggest taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis to avoid unnecessary repairs.

I appreciate your assistance. I took your advice and went to the workshop. It turns out the cable for the charge air temperature sensor was indeed defective, as I initially suspected. The repair, including parts and labor, amounted to 95€. Everything is now running smoothly again. Thanks again for your valuable input.

I have a Volvo S80 as well and I had very similar symptoms a while back. Check engine light, reduced power and that annoying whistling sound. It ended up being related to the airflow sensor. I am not sure if it's the same issue, but might be worth checking.
