S80 engine stalls at idle
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Volvo S80 is experiencing engine stalling at idle and intermittent check engine light activation. The suspected cause is a leak in the fuel tank ventilation system, potentially due to a defective activated charcoal filter. After consulting a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be a faulty charcoal filter, which was replaced, resolving the stalling problem.

Thanks! Chimney, that's a great analogy! I haven't seen any obvious cracks. Where should I be looking for these leaks in the EVAP system?

Honestly, in my case, the leak was a real pain to find without proper tools. It could be anywhere from the fuel tank to the engine bay. Best bet is to take it to a workshop. They'll have smoke testers to pinpoint the leak.

You were right! The workshop confirmed a defective activated charcoal filter was causing the EVAP system leak. The repair was 275€, but now the engine runs smoothly. Thanks for your help!

Sounds familiar. I had similar problems with my old Opel Astra – the check engine light and stalling were driving me nuts! It turned out to be an EVAP system issue. Think of it like a blocked chimney for your fuel tank. Have you checked for any cracks or loose hoses?
