S80 engine wont start
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Volvo S80 diesel engine wouldn't start, and the initial suspicion was poor battery cable connections. A similar issue was shared, where a corroded ground cable caused starting problems. The suggested solution was to check battery connections and consider a diagnostic check. The problem was resolved by fixing a corroded connection, costing 155€.

Thanks for the tip! When you say 'similar', do you mean the engine wouldn't start at all? Or was it just rough starting?

Yeah, mine wouldn't start at all. Turned out to be a corroded ground cable. I'd still suggest getting a proper engine diagnostics check at a workshop. Could be an ECU issue, but start with the simple stuff first. It's like checking the fuse box before tearing apart the whole electrical system.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I took it to the shop and you were spot on - corroded connection! Cost me 155€ to fix. Cheers!

Hey, I had something similar happen with my Volvo S80. Check the battery connections thoroughly. A loose connection can cause all sorts of weird issues, like your engine control malfunction. It's like trying to power a house with a frayed wire.
