S80 Headlight Range Control Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Volvo S80 diesel displayed a 'Headlight Range Control Fault' error, with misaligned low beams, suspected to be due to a defective servomotor. Possible causes included issues with the servomotor, electrical connectors, or the auto-leveling sensor. After inspection and diagnosis at a workshop, the servomotor was confirmed as the issue and was repaired, resolving the problem.

Yes, the vehicle has auto-leveling. Regarding the electrical connectors, are there any specific points I should focus on? Is there a common failure point?

Given that you have auto-leveling, and the connectors appear sound, the servomotor itself is the most likely culprit. While it could be a sensor issue, that would usually throw a separate diagnostic code. The repair is unfortunately rather involved and expensive. I would recommend taking it to a reputable Volvo workshop and having them diagnose it properly.

I took the vehicle to a workshop, and the diagnosis confirmed the servomotor failure. The repair, including parts and labor, amounted to 1040€. The system is now functioning as expected.

A headlight range control fault on an S80? It does sound like a potential servomotor issue. Before jumping to that conclusion, have you inspected the electrical connectors leading to the headlight assembly? A loose or corroded connector can mimic those symptoms. Also, is your S80 equipped with the auto-leveling feature? If so, the sensor for that system could also be at fault.
