S80 Inlet VANOS Issue

Experiencing issues with my 2003 Volvo S80 (gasoline engine) with 104830 km. Check engine light keeps appearing, and fuel consumption has increased. I suspect it's related to the inlet VANOS mechanics, maybe a camshaft solenoid valve or power supply. Anyone else had this?

I had a similar problem with my S80. Check the variable valve timing (VVT) solenoids. Have you scanned for any specific error codes? That might help narrow down which solenoid is acting up.

Thanks. I scanned for error codes, and it pointed towards the inlet camshaft. Did your error code also specifically mention the inlet camshaft? And what was the final repair for you?

Yes, the code indicated a problem with the inlet camshaft. I ended up taking it to a workshop. They confirmed it was a faulty solenoid. I'd recommend doing the same, just to be sure.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to my local mechanic, and they confirmed it was the inlet VANOS solenoid valve. Repair cost me around 250€. Runs like a dream now!
