S80 Oil Pressure Light
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Volvo S80 owner experienced an oil pressure warning light and an error related to the engine oil temperature sensor. The suspected cause was a bad connection, possibly a faulty cable or plug. It was suggested to check the oil level and use a diagnostic tool to monitor sensor readings. Ultimately, a shop confirmed a faulty connection at the sensor, replaced the connector, and resolved the issue.

Oil level is fine. I haven't monitored the live data from the sensor itself. Is that something I can check with a basic OBD2 scanner, or do I need something more advanced to see the actual temperature reading?

Ah, good to know the oil level is okay. Yeah, a basic OBD2 scanner might show you the live temperature reading, but it's a bit hit-or-miss. Some of the cheaper ones only pull basic error codes. A more advanced scanner, or a dedicated Volvo diagnostic tool, will definitely give you that data. Honestly, with those symptoms and your suspicion of a wiring issue, it's probably best to have a shop take a look. They can properly diagnose the wiring and confirm the sensor's functionality. Could save you a lot of guesswork and potential headaches.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were right – faulty connection at the sensor. They replaced the connector, and the light's gone. Cost me 95€ Appreciate the help!

Hey there! Oil temperature sensors, eh? Those can be tricky little gremlins. Since you're seeing both a warning light and the oil pressure light, that sensor is definitely sending the ECU (Engine Control Unit, basically the car's brain) some funky information. Before you go tearing things apart, have you checked the oil level itself? Low oil can trigger weird sensor readings. Also, do you know if the sensor is actually reading incorrect temperatures, or is it just the light coming on?
