S80 Power Steering Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Volvo S80 is experiencing power steering issues, characterized by a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and dashboard error messages. These symptoms suggest potential electrical faults, possibly due to faulty cable connections or plugs. A workshop visit is recommended to diagnose and resolve the issue, as similar cases have been resolved by addressing electrical faults rather than replacing the entire steering system.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

My dear fellow, which cable connections are you referring to specifically? I am reasonably handy, but I wouldn't want to start poking around without a clearer idea of where to begin my investigation.

Yeah, that steering issue is no fun. I recall fiddling around and not finding much. Just take it to the workshop, that is what I did in the end. They told me the same, defective plug. The error memory also suggested that it was an electric fault. All in all, 95€ and problem solved. Better than ending up in the ditch!

You are a lifesaver! Your shared experience has given me the courage to proceed with a workshop visit. Knowing the likely culprit will hopefully prevent them from suggesting an entire steering rack replacement! I'll let you know how it goes when the deed is done. Thank you!

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms with my S80. Steering felt like stirring concrete. The error code is a dead giveaway. Did you happen to check the cable connections? A faulty plug can cause all sorts of mayhem.
