Yes, that's correct. The area near the hinge is where the wires are most likely to fail. Check for any visible damage to the wires or corrosion in the plug. If you are not comfortable working on electrical components, I suggest taking it to a workshop.

I appreciate the advice. Following your recommendation, I had it inspected by a technician. The issue was indeed a faulty connection, and the repair cost 95€ Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I had a similar issue with the automatic tailgate on my S80. The electrical sensor can be sensitive. Did you check the wiring harness where it enters the tailgate? Those wires flex every time you open and close the trunk, and can sometimes break or chafe.
