S80 Power Tailgate Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Volvo S80 is experiencing a power tailgate issue, where it doesn't open completely, and an error suggests a defective cable or plug connection to the hall sensor. The problem is likely due to a faulty wiring harness near the hinge, where wires can break or chafe. Inspection and repair by a technician confirmed a faulty connection, resolving the issue.

Thanks. When you mention the wiring harness, are you referring to the connection near the hinge? Is there a specific area I should inspect more closely for damage or corrosion?

Yes, that's correct. The area near the hinge is where the wires are most likely to fail. Check for any visible damage to the wires or corrosion in the plug. If you are not comfortable working on electrical components, I suggest taking it to a workshop.

I appreciate the advice. Following your recommendation, I had it inspected by a technician. The issue was indeed a faulty connection, and the repair cost 95€ Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I had a similar issue with the automatic tailgate on my S80. The electrical sensor can be sensitive. Did you check the wiring harness where it enters the tailgate? Those wires flex every time you open and close the trunk, and can sometimes break or chafe.
