S80 reduced engine power
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Volvo S80 is experiencing reduced engine power, struggling acceleration, and a persistent check engine light. Initial diagnostics suggest a throttle valve issue, but other potential causes include a faulty accelerator pedal module or problematic electronics. After further investigation, it was determined that the accelerator pedal module was faulty, and replacing it resolved the issue.

Thanks for the tip! Erratic idling, hmm... now that you mention it, yeah, it does seem a bit rougher than usual at idle. Definitely something I noticed, but didn't pay too much attention to. The air filter looks okay, but I haven't replaced it recently. Could a dirty air filter really cause all these issues with the throttle valve and reduced power?

Well, in my case with the Insignia, the dirty air filter was messing with the air flow and the sensor was giving bad readings. That threw everything off, including the engine performance and ultimately resulting in limp mode. Since you mention both the rough idling and that the OBD scanner shows the throttle valve - might be worth taking it to a workshop. They'll be able to properly diagnose it. If the air filter does not fix it, the electronics or the module itself might be defective...

Thanks a lot! That's what I was afraid of - sounds like a trip to the shop is inevitable. Took it to the workshop and turns out the accelerator pedal module was faulty. Cost me 265€ to get it sorted, but at least it runs like new again. Thanks again for your help!

That sounds annoying! Had something similar happen with my 2016 Opel Insignia a while back. Limp mode was kicking in all the time and the engine was just not happy, but it was the air flow sensor then. Was your engine idling erratically as well? Did you check the air filter by any chance? Those sensors can be pretty sensitive to that sort of thing...
