S80 Transmission Emergency Mode

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my 2000 Volvo S80 (gasoline engine). I'm getting a "radiator oil pressure defective" error. The transmission indicator light and check engine light are both on. The automatic transmission is stuck in emergency mode and isn't shifting correctly – it slips, shifts roughly, and there's a grinding noise sometimes. Error codes are stored in the system. Could a faulty cable or plug connection really cause all of this?

I had a similar experience with my S80. Was the radiator coolant pressure sensor checked? A defective sensor can cause transmission issues. Does the cooling fan run continuously?

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't considered the sensor itself. If the sensor is faulty, could that really put the transmission in emergency mode? Or will the pressure or temperature in the system be too high?

Yes, in my case, a faulty sensor triggered limp mode. I would suggest testing the sensor and checking for coolant leaks. However, since you are mentioning those grinding noises, I recommend having a workshop take a look at it.

Thanks for your help! The workshop confirmed it was indeed the coolant pressure sensor and a corroded connector. Replacing both, as well as doing a flush, solved the problem, and I'm only out 95€. The transmission is shifting smoothly again.
