S90 Camshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Volvo S90 with 170,000 miles is experiencing rough starts, random stalling at idle, and an illuminated check engine light. The suspected cause is a faulty camshaft sensor or possibly the encoder wheel. After taking the car to a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be with both the camshaft sensor and the encoder wheel, and repairs resolved the problem.

Sensor testing? How did you confirm it was the camshaft position and not something else causing these weird issues? Any specific readings I should be looking for?

To be honest, I didn't delve too deeply into the sensor testing myself. I took it to a trusted workshop. They confirmed the issue with the camshaft sensor and suspected a problem with the encoder wheel as well. It's best to have them diagnose to pinpoint the problem before attempting repairs.

Cheers for the advice! Took her into the shop and you were spot on. It was indeed the camshaft sensor and the encoder wheel. Cost me 695€ to get it all sorted. Runs like a dream now!

I had similar symptoms with my S90. Rough starts and stalling are not fun. Did you perform a sensor testing to confirm the camshaft position? Maybe the engine control is not working properly.
