S90 Control Unit Communication Error
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Volvo S90 owner reported a control unit communication error, leading to engine overheating, check engine light activation, and coolant leakage. Diagnostics suggested a defective cable or plug connection as the cause. Another individual with a similar issue recommended checking CAN bus connections, which was confirmed to be a loose connection on a control module. The problem was resolved by repairing a defective connector.

Could you elaborate on which specific CAN bus connections you inspected on your S90?

I did not perform the inspection myself; I took it to a workshop. The mechanic identified it as a communication fault related to a loose connection on one of the control modules. I would suggest seeking professional diagnostics; it may save you time.

Thank you for the advice. The issue was indeed a defective connector. Repair cost was 95€. Appreciated.

I had a similar issue with my S90, though I am unsure about the year of manufacture. The symptoms you describe sound very familiar. Did you check the CAN bus connections? It could be a data link problem.
