S90 Diesel Rail Pressure Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2018 Volvo S90 diesel is experiencing intermittent check engine light activation, engine stalling at idle, and reduced power during acceleration. Diagnostic codes indicate a faulty rail pressure sensor signal, confirmed by erratic sensor output during live data readings. The suggested solution is to replace the defective rail pressure sensor, which has resolved similar issues for others.

Yes, the fault code specifically indicated an issue with the fuel rail pressure sensor signal. The mechanic mentioned live data readings, and he confirmed that the sensor's output was fluctuating erratically, particularly when the engine was idling or under load. Did replacing the sensor resolve the issue for you entirely?

That’s almost exactly what happened with mine! Erratic readings are a dead giveaway. Based on my experience, and the symptoms you're describing, it seems highly probable that a defective pressure sensor is indeed the culprit. I think you should take it to a workshop, and they will solve the problem for about 240€.

I appreciate your explanation and confirmation of the likely cause. I will schedule an appointment with my local Volvo service center to have the rail pressure sensor replaced. Your experience has been incredibly helpful in diagnosing this issue. Replacing the defective pressure sensor fixed everything.

I own an S90 and faced similar symptoms not too long ago. The engine stalling, the check engine light – it all sounds very familiar. Was the fault code specifically related to the fuel rail pressure sensor? Did your mechanic perform any live data readings to confirm the sensor's output was erratic or out of range?
