Summary of the thread
A 2020 Volvo S90 with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced engine power and a check engine light, with diagnostic tools indicating an issue with the intake air temperature sensor. Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I did check the temperature readings. They seem way off, even when the engine is cold. Like, reading ambient temperature when it should be much higher after running for a while. What did it end up being when you had this happen?

Okay, if the readings are consistently off, even when cold, it really does sound like a defective sensor. In my case it was indeed the intake air temperature sensor. I strongly suggest taking it to a reputable workshop to get a proper diagnosis and replacement. They will have the correct tools and expertise to handle it efficiently, and rule out other potential problems. It sounds like you are pretty sure, but better safe!

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to my local garage, and you were spot on – it was the intake air temperature sensor. They replaced it for 155€. Engine's running smooth now, and the check engine light is gone. Appreciate the help!

I had something similar happen with my S90, though I can't recall the exact year. The symptoms you describe – check engine light, power loss, and error codes pointing to the intake air temperature sensor – sound very familiar. Have you checked the temperature readings from the sensor using your diagnostic tool? Are they plausible, or are they completely out of range?
