Safrane ABS Light Lateral Acceleration Sensor Fault

I'm pulling my hair out! I've got a '99 Renault Safrane with a gasoline engine, and the ABS light keeps popping up. The ABS system is failing, and the diagnostic scan is showing a lateral acceleration sensor fault. I suspect the control unit is defective. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any ideas before I'm 1000€ poorer?

I had similar issues with my Safrane. Have you checked the steering angle sensor and yaw rate sensor readings during a diagnostic scan? Could be related to electronic stability control issues.

Thanks for the quick reply! The steering angle and yaw rate sensors... hmm, I didn't dive that deep. Where exactly should I be looking when I run the diagnostic? Any specific values or ranges I should be aiming for? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I can't give you exact figures, but if the readings are erratic or zero, then the sensor or the control unit itself is most likely the problem. At this point, I'd recommend a workshop with the proper diagnostic equipment. It will save you money in the long run.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. Looks like I'm headed to the workshop. Will let you know what they find!
