Safrane ABS Traction Problems

Interesting! You mention the speedometer acting up. I haven't noticed anything unusual with mine, or the odometer for that matter. But the ABS light and traction control issues are spot on. When your Safrane had this problem, did a diagnostic tool confirm the control unit was the culprit, or did you just go ahead and replace it based on the symptoms? Any specific error codes pop up?

You know, now that you mention it, I don't recall the exact error codes, but I distinctly remember the mechanic saying something about the control unit not sending the right signals. He tried cleaning the wheel speed sensors, but that didn't solve the problem. In the end, replacing the control unit was the only thing that fixed it. Honestly, based on what you're describing, it sounds like you're in the same boat. Probably best to bite the bullet and get it checked out at a reputable workshop.

Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience! It's reassuring (in a twisted way) to know I'm not alone in this Safrane saga. I'll get it to a workshop and have them run a proper diagnostic. From what you and they have said, I guess I will need to replace the defective control unit. Hopefully, that'll put an end to this icy driving experience. Appreciate the help!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Renault Safrane (don't remember the exact year, sorry!). ABS light on, traction control throwing a fit – the whole shebang. Speedometer was acting funky too, almost like the car didn't know how fast it was going. Did you notice anything weird with the odometer reading? It might be worth checking the wheel speed sensors as well, though it really does sound like the control unit.
