Safrane Active Hood Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Renault Safrane owner reported an "Active hood fault" message and an airbag warning light. The issue was suspected to be a defective acceleration sensor, which controls the active hood system for pedestrian safety and could also affect the airbag system. It was advised to have a workshop handle the repair due to the complexity and safety concerns, and the problem was resolved by replacing the faulty sensor.

Acceleration sensor... Interesting. Where exactly is that located, and is it difficult to replace?

It's part of the active hood system, so it's usually near the front. Considering it ties into the airbags, I strongly suggest you have a workshop take a look. Airbag systems are tricky, and you don't want to accidentally deploy one. The eventual repair cost could be in the region of 315€.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right, it was the acceleration sensor. All sorted now.

I had something similar with my Safrane. Is it like a fire alarm going off for no reason? It sounds like the acceleration sensor might be defective. That controls the active hood for pedestrian safety in a crash. It could also affect the airbag system.
