Safrane audio system failure

I'm having real headaches with the audio system in my 1999 Renault Safrane (gasoline engine). The entire system is dead – no radio, no CD, absolutely nothing. The diagnostics are showing an error stored in the memory, but I'm struggling to pinpoint the exact cause. I've checked all the fuses and wiring looms that I can easily access, but no luck. Could a defective display really kill the whole audio setup like this?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar gremlin in my Safrane. Check the connections behind the dashboard controls – they're notoriously flimsy. Does your volume control feel normal, or is it a bit 'loose'?

Thanks for the quick response! The volume control feels normal, no different than usual. When you had the issue, did the entire system just go silent, or were there any other symptoms like speaker crackle or random Bluetooth problems beforehand?

Nope, mine just went silent – stone dead, like yours. After a lot of head-scratching, I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the display unit causing the whole issue. It was bizarre. I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed; could save you a lot of time and frustration.

Thanks for confirming! Sounds like I'm heading down the same path. I appreciate the advice; I'll book it in with a workshop. They quoted 725€ for a new display unit plus installation, so fingers crossed that sorts it. Thanks again!
