Safrane Brake Fluid Low Spongy Pedal
Summary of the thread
The 2000 Renault Safrane exhibited a consistently low brake fluid level and a spongy brake pedal, despite no visible leaks. This issue was suspected to be due to worn brake components, as the last brake inspection was 18 months ago. Upon taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the brakes were indeed worn, leading to their replacement.

The pedal feel changed recently, over the past week. My last brake inspection was about 18 months ago. Does that make worn brake components more likely?

Eighteen months is plenty of time for wear and tear. Like shoes, brake pads wear down. Sounds like classic worn brakes. Get it checked ASAP. Driving with questionable brakes is risky.

Took it to a workshop, and it was worn brakes. Total repair cost was 480€.

A spongy brake pedal and low fluid usually mean you're losing brake fluid somewhere. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't happening! Like a leaky pipe, sometimes the water hides. Has the pedal always felt like this, or is this new? When were the brakes last checked?
